The SME (Scholars in Medical Education) residency pathway is an exciting, unique opportunity for residents interested in seeking careers as clinician-educators.

Mission Statement

The SME (Scholars in Medical Education) residency pathway is an exciting, unique opportunity for residents interested in seeking careers as clinician-educators. In this pathway, residents will gain knowledge of key principles underlying educational theory and pedagogy, and adopt a scholarly approach to education. The pathway provides a foundation for residents whose career focus includes curriculum design, scholarship, administration and leadership in medical education. Its overall aim is to develop skills that residents will use to become agents of educational change. While the focus is not solely teaching-skills development, observation of teaching with structured debriefing will be one of its core elements.
