Medicine-Dermatology
Combined Residency Program

Thank you for your interest in our combined Internal Medicine-Dermatology residency training program!

A medicine-dermatology residency program was established in 2009 between the Harvard Combined Dermatology Residency Training Program and the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Over the last 15 years, we have developed a robust, integrated, 5-year training experience that fosters the professional and personal development of our trainees. We are proud to have 10 Med-Derm jointly-trained faculty members and numerous dermatology-trained faculty experts in complex medical dermatology as teachers and mentors for our Med-Derm residents across all our training institutions.

Our Med-Derm program is designed to permit the acquisition of knowledge and experience across both disciplines that will aid in the care of patients with complex medical and dermatologic illnesses. Upon completion of training, residents are eligible to sit for board examinations in both internal medicine and dermatology.  The training program emphasizes the cutaneous and systemic management of complex medical dermatology illness including, but not limited to, autoimmune connective tissue and blistering disorders, cutaneous lymphomas and other cutaneous malignancies, inpatient consultative dermatology, and the broad recognition of dermatologic manifestations and implications of systemic diseases. This combined training will prepare trainees for a wide array of potential careers at the interface of internal medicine and dermatology, in clinical practice or in the academic setting. In addition, our residents are eligible for participation in select residency-specific training tracks, and are eligible to pursue internal medicine and dermatology fellowships upon graduation.

Our program places a particular emphasis on the values of leadership, scholarship, and professionalism and seeks to provide our trainees with ample opportunities to cultivate their talents in these domains during their time in residency.
